Using a "survival of the fittest" method for selection, Dr. Buck's research focused on innate hardiness. The resulting roses are also disease and drought resistant, able to survive and thrive no matter what the extremes. Buck particularly sought colors in his roses which would combine easily with other garden flowers. AVAILABILITY International rose hybridizers have incorporated Buck's roses into their breeding programs for more than three decades, yet these roses had not been widely available within the United States.
